Right after Takeda Clan was destroyed, at the end of the 16th century, construction of Kofu-jo Castle and the castle town was started as the political and economic center of Kai. Especially water supply system was completed earlier than the other area of Japan. It was crowded with large stores and unique cultural events including the festival for "Dosojin" travelers' deity.
Here you can see how the castle town was bustling with Dosojin Festival and "Hatsu-uri" New Year's sale.
